Drive like a car, park like a motorcycle
Foldable electric micro-vehicle that changes width while driving for urban mobility.
City Transformer is an Israeli electric vehicle company developing the world's first shape-shifting micro-car. Their patented chassis technology allows the vehicle to dynamically change its width from 1.4 meters (for highway driving at up to 90 km/h) to just 1 meter (for urban navigation and motorcycle-sized parking). Founded in 2014 by Dr. Asaf Formoza and Udi Meridor, the company has developed two models: the CT-1 production-ready L7e-class two-seater, and the next-generation CT-2. The CT-1 features dual 7.5 kW motors, a range of 120–180 km, and 30-minute fast charging. Named one of TIME's Best Inventions of 2020 and winner of the German Design Award 2023 Gold Medal, City Transformer raised $10M in Series A funding led by the Lubinski Group. The company is headquartered in Israel with plans to launch European production.
City Transformer caught our attention with a genuinely novel hardware innovation — a car that physically folds to motorcycle width while driving. In a micro-EV market full of small-but-static designs, their patented width-changing chassis is a mechanical engineering feat that directly addresses the parking crisis in dense European and Asian cities.
Discovery signal: TIME Best Inventions recognition, patented shape-shifting chassis with no direct competitor, strong fit for European L7e regulatory category
City Transformer is the only micro-vehicle that dynamically changes its physical width while driving — shrinking from car-width to motorcycle-width for parking and dense traffic, a patented mechanical innovation no competitor has replicated.
