NFT-backed coffee brand pairing limited-edition artist-designed bags with revenue sharing for creators.
Collectible Coffee was a Web3-native coffee brand that merged specialty coffee with collectible art. Each limited-edition bag featured original artwork from emerging artists printed on high-quality matte packaging, with only 500 numbered bags per design — making them rare collectibles akin to trading cards. Artists received 10% of profits from every bag sold featuring their work, and the company created 3D animated NFT versions of each bag design. Founded in July 2021 by San Jose State University students David Gelovani and Zachary Kor, the bootstrapped startup achieved $15K in revenue in its first year from a $4K initial investment. Collectible Coffee secured distribution in 15 grocery stores across Northern California and hosted community events including art competitions where Bay Area artists competed to be featured on the next release. The company is no longer active, with founder David Gelovani having moved on to other roles.
Collectible Coffee caught our eye as a creative experiment at the intersection of Web3 and specialty coffee — limited-edition artist-designed bags with NFT counterparts and revenue sharing for creators. While the startup didn't survive the crypto winter, the concept of putting artists first with numbered collectible packaging was genuinely novel.
Discovery signal: Novel intersection of NFT collectibles with physical consumer goods, artist revenue-sharing model, strong early community engagement in Bay Area
