Smart insoles with built-in scale for automated weight tracking and health coaching.
Embry Tech developed a thin smart insole with patent-pending built-in scale technology designed for sustaining healthy weight. The insole fits inside any shoe and automatically tracks daily steps, exercise hours, sitting time, and weight changes — alerting users when they gain 2-3 kilograms. The accompanying app provides activity analysis reports with insights on how activity levels impact weight, and connects users with nutritionists, trainers, and psychologists for personalized fitness coaching. Founded in Armenia by a team that went through the Startup Academy pre-acceleration program, Embry filed its weight-calculation technology as patent pending with the U.S. Intellectual Property Office. The company raised approximately $500K-$600K in pre-seed funding from SmartGateVC (backed by Tim Draper), HIVE Ventures, the Armenia Startup Academy, EU grants, and angel investors. Embry is no longer active.
Embry caught our eye with a genuinely novel hardware concept — embedding a scale into a shoe insole for passive weight tracking. The Armenian founding team brought a unique nutritionist-engineer combination, and the patent-pending weight-calculation technology showed real innovation. Unfortunately, the company was unable to sustain operations and is no longer active.
Discovery signal: Novel patent-pending hardware approach to weight tracking, unique nutritionist-engineer founding team, early EU and VC backing
Embry uniquely integrated weight measurement directly into a shoe insole, providing passive weight tracking without requiring users to step on a separate scale — combining activity monitoring with automated weight-change alerts in a single wearable.
