Stories for everyone
Social reading platform that reimagines book clubs with community-powered discussions and reading tools.
Fable is a social reading platform that transforms book clubs into interactive, community-driven experiences. Users can create or join book clubs, track reading progress with streaks and stats, and engage in guided discussions with fellow readers. The platform attracted over 100,000 active book clubs led by authors, BookTokkers, celebrities, and passionate readers. Founded in 2019 by tech industry veteran Padmasree Warrior (former CTO of Cisco and CEO of NIO U.S.), Fable raised $27.25M from Tiger Global, Redpoint Ventures, Breyer Capital, and others before being acquired by Everand (a Scribd company) in June 2025.
Fable caught our attention as a tech veteran's play to reinvent the book club for the digital age. Padmasree Warrior โ who ran engineering at Cisco and led NIO in the US โ saw that Goodreads had stagnated and readers were craving genuine community. The acquisition by Everand/Scribd validated the thesis that social reading is the next frontier for digital content platforms.
Discovery signal: High-profile founder (former Cisco CTO), Tiger Global lead investment, rapid community growth with 100K+ book clubs, clear gap in social reading market.
Fable combined social reading with interactive book club tools โ guided discussions, reading streaks, progress tracking, and celebrity-led clubs โ creating a community experience that Goodreads never delivered.
