Utopia Labs built the operational backbone for DAOs — a platform that consolidated treasury management, payment requests, contributor payroll, and financial reporting into a single dashboard. Founded in 2021 by four college-age builders (Kaito Cunningham, Jason Chong, Alexander Wu, and Pryce Adade-Yebesi), the company tackled the chaos of DAO operations at the height of the Web3 boom. DAOs were managing billions in treasury assets through clunky multisig wallets and spreadsheets; Utopia gave them a modern operating system. The team raised $48.3M total including a $23M Series A led by Paradigm, then pivoted from DAO tooling to stablecoin-based payments infrastructure. In November 2024, Coinbase acquired the Utopia Labs team to accelerate its onchain payments roadmap within Coinbase Wallet.
