The App Store of AI
A crowdsourced AI model marketplace where developers can buy and sell proprietary machine learning models.
Volant AI built a marketplace for crowdsourced AI models, enabling data scientists to upload, sell, and monetize their machine learning algorithms while allowing buyers to discover and deploy pre-built AI solutions. The platform supported Keras, PyTorch, and TensorFlow models, delivered as Docker-based API endpoints that could run on-prem or in the cloud. Founded by Sachin Raghavendran in 2021, the marketplace launched with 50+ waitlisted users and 10+ sellers offering models including FAANG stock predictors. The company aimed to democratize AI by making high-performing models accessible to small and medium businesses at a fraction of the cost of custom development. The marketplace appears to have ceased operations.
Volant AI was an early attempt to create an 'App Store' for AI models — a marketplace where data scientists could monetize their algorithms and businesses could access production-ready ML models without building from scratch. While the concept was ahead of its time, the market has since evolved with platforms like Hugging Face dominating the model-sharing space.
Discovery signal: Early marketplace concept for AI models, targeting the gap between model creators and SMBs needing affordable AI solutions.
Volant AI focused on creating a two-sided marketplace specifically for crowdsourced ML models, delivered as Docker-based API endpoints for easy deployment.
